Varsity

Girls V Basketball:

The 15-7 Lady Eagles enjoyed another highly competitive season marked by a second-place finish in the division and a #6 seed in the county tournament (the highest in recent memory.) Four keys to success were 1) unselfish, team-first spirit 2) tenacious man-to-man defense and rebounding led by Kirsten Braunius, Caroline Pringle, and Tori Brown 3) three-point shooting from Skyy Marcano, Addie Fleming, and Audrey Heerema, and 4) high energy off the bench from Hannah Leegwater and Nora Lazor. Season highlights included two hard-fought wins over rival Pompton Lakes, a convincing performance vs Hasbrouck Heights in the Christmas tournament, beating perennial power Secaucus in a thriller, and a fun Community Night game vs Wood-Ridge that saw every Eagle score a 3-pointer (including several career firsts!) The future looks bright as assistant coach Madison Wybeek takes over the program next season with eight returning varsity players.

Boys V Basketball:

The boys varsity basketball team demonstrated resiliency during a difficult season. Key starters Andrew Mwrigi and Jonmarcus Rodriguez suffered season-ending injuries early in the season, and other injuries and illnesses to players prevented the team from achieving some of their goals. The season was not without its highlights, however: Justin Blands-Pearson received a commendation as an “impact sophomore” in New Jersey basketball; Jayden Medina’s offensive explosion against Waldwick with 4 three-pointers in the second quarter; Andy Genuario’s strong, all-around performance, the emergence of Carter Groen and Sam Audige as significant contributors on both levels; the contributions of Hudson Culp and Joe Virga, who stepped up into Varsity roles mid-way through the season; and the perseverance of our seniors, Keith and Kevin Osae-Twum, Gio Indomenico, Caleb Chae, and Luke Demosthene.

Winter Track:

The 2024-2025 winter track season was a testament to the dedication and resilience of the team. Senior leaders Alex Culp, Ethan Nashold, Destiny Miller, and Kayleigh Marshall set the tone for the season, while junior Kyle Wright showed leadership during sprint reps. Seniors Brady Scarnato-Bennett and Cade Sippel reached new personal bests in the 1-mile race.

In the field events, senior captains Jade Singletary and Rebekah Baker led a strong group of throwers, including varsity competitors Adam and Alyssa Malasits. Senior Valarie Portuphy earned multiple medals in long jump and triple jump. The season’s most memorable meets took place in freezing temperatures at Ramapo High School and at the league championship meet at the Armory in Manhattan.

Girls Bowling:

After graduating several seniors from last year’s successful squad, this season was one of transition for girls bowling at EC. Senior captain Rebecca Ross and sophomore Sunny Yuan put together impressive seasons while two newcomers, Rayne Davis and Brooke McLachlan, showed a lot of promise for next year. The highlight of the season was bowling two games of 500+ pins, including winning one game against State Section runner-up Dumont. The ladies also qualified for the North Group 1 Sectional Tournament where they traveled to Bayonne to face #3 seed McNair Academy. This was a valuable experience in order to take the next step and get back to being one of the top girls teams in Passaic County and North Group 1.

Boys Bowling:

Despite a slow start due to only returning Nathan Im and Joseph DeLuccia from last year’s state sectional runner-up team, the team won 13 straight matches on the way to another sectional final appearance. Once Billy Cook and Yejoon Shin settled in and super sub Kevin Korogodon stepped up in key moments, EC challenged the defending champion for the division crown into the last night of the season. The team came up just a few points short of first but secured a top 2 finish in the NJIC Colonial Division for the sixth straight season.

The most exciting moments of the season included traveling to Sparta and upsetting #3 seed Newton in the quarterfinals by a single pin in the third game. This allowed the boys to host the semi-finals and defeat Emerson/Park Ridge to go back to the state sectional finals. The 2025-2026 season should prove to be another exciting season for the Eagles Bowling squad as varsity bowlers Nathan, Joon, Billy, Kevin and Dakota Weichmann all return with valuable experience. We thank Joe DeLuccia for his leadership and dedication to the program over the past 4 years.

JV & Freshmen

Girls JV Basketball:

With a large and talented freshmen class, the girls basketball program was pleased to once again field a JV basketball team this season. Under first year coach Madison Wynbeek, led by varsity swing players Charlotte Kuiken and Allie VandeVrede, the young lady Eagles worked hard in practice and demonstrated improvement throughout, putting together a winning season and proving to be competitive even against the league’s best.

Boys JV Basketball:

The boy’s JV basketball team kicked off the season with an impressive 67-36 victory over Bogota, marking their highest-scoring game of the year. Other highlights included the strong finish to the season, winning the last two games and overcoming an 8-point halftime deficit to defeat Ridge field 48-43 in the season finale. Coach David Riley believes many of the JV players will be ready to contribute on the varsity level next year.

Boys Frosh Basketball:

The boys freshman basketball team showcased their resilience and determination throughout a season filled with thrilling matchups and hard-fought battles. Many games came down to the wire including some intense overtime finishes that saw the boys come out on top in six of them!. Leadership was a collective effort, but notable encouragement and guidance came from Mason Hinton, Caleb Virga, and Jaden Rodriguez.

Middle School

Girls MS Basketball:

Girls middle school basketball finished the season with a record of 8-4, three of the losses by a combined margin of just 7 points. The ladies showed steady improvement throughout the season, learning to trust one another and building confidence in themselves as individuals and together as a team. The focus of practices continues to be development of fundamentals including ball handling, rebounding, footwork, defense, and shooting.

Boys MS Basketball:

The middle school boys’ basketball team finished the season with a 4-6 record. Throughout the season, focus in practice was on establishing good fundamentals, learning the EC offense, and understanding man-to-man defense. With five sixth graders returning, there is cause for optimism for next season!
